A game changer: SSIS can now interact with HDInsight (part 1)

I’m pleased to announce that the SSIS team at Microsoft have now made available to the public a SSIS feature pack that’ll allow on-premise access to Azure blob and HDInsight. Here are the links to download and install the feature pack for SSIS 2012 and 2014:

SSIS 2012: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47367

SSIS 2014: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47366

Here are the functionalities that this feature pack provides:

  • Download and upload files to Azure Storage Blob container.
  • Create and delete Azure HDInsight cluster.
  • Loop over blobs in an Azure Storage container.
  • Call Hive and Pig tasks.

Other functionalities will be integrated in future versions of the feature pack. For me, being a big fan of big data and cloud technology, I think that this is a great new. And that’ll certainly help organizations to support hybrid data movement scenarios (on-prem and cloud data).

In the next few days, I’ll dig into each of these feature pack functionalities in future articles.

Stay tuned!
